Sprucing Your Home Up For Summer

If your home is feeling a little dull, tired and shabby and you want to give it a new lease of life, consider a mini makeover for summer. By making a few small changes to your home it can soon feel as though you almost have a brand new house inside! Read on for some simple ways to give your home a new summery feel.

If your furniture, furnishings and sideboards are looking old and shabby, a lick of paint in a fresh, new summery shade will instantly brighten the place up and get everything looking that little bit newer.

Great summer shades to use in the home include pale yellows, pinky reds, sky blues and grass greens. You don’t have to go over the top and paint absolutely everything in summery shades either. A lick of paint on your oak sideboards alone can make a real difference to the look of a room.

Brighten up an oak chest of drawers with a new paintjob and it will feel like a whole new piece of furniture, for a fraction of the cost. You can also upholster furniture using wallpaper to give it a totally new look.

Of course, there is little point in spending time sprucing up your furniture in lovely new summer colours if your home is full of mess and clutter. Spend time getting rid of anything you don’t need and can’t reuse or redecorate in some way. You can give unwanted items of furniture to charity or you could try swapping with friends and family for stuff they don’t want but which would look great in your home.

As well as clearing out the clutter, take your time to make sure your house is clean and tidy. It’s no good spending time on redecorating your furniture and repainting your sideboards if everything is covered with a thick layer of dust. A good spring clean will instantly make your house look brighter, fresher and newer without the need to spend lots of money on brand new items and furnishings.
